UP Chief Minister kicks off new academic year
Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, took time out to serve food to children and also relish the meal prepared at Akshaya Patra kitchen while participating in School Chalo Abhiyan and Vanutsav programme conducted in Lucknow.

On June 7, 2017, after the launch of Feed the Future Now in Delhi, The Akshaya Patra Foundation launched the campaign’s official video. The launch took place in Mumbai at PVR, Juhu Dynamix Mall in the presence of Mr Shankar Mahadevan, Singer & Music Composer; Mr Vivek Oberoi, Actor; Mr Sanjeev Kapoor, Chef & Entrepreneur; and Mrs Sonali Bendre, Actress.
At the launch of Feed the Future Now
The Akshaya Patra Foundation, along with leading corporates: GSK Consumer Healthcare, Nestlé, PepsiCo India, PVR Nest, Reliance Retail, Facebook, The Lalit Group, Big FM & Viacom 18, and the Government of India, launched a nation-wide movement called ‘Feed the Future Now.’ This movement is set to serve 5 Billion Meals to children by 2020.
On March 19, 2017, Akshaya Patra organised its annual biking rally in Hyderabad where more than 250 bikers participated to ride for a cause. Bikers assembled at Akshaya Patra campus in Banjara Hills at 7 am and after a brief event, they covered a distance of 33 kilometers around the city. Akshaya Patra is grateful to all the bikers and the Government of Telangana for making Outride Hunger 2017 a successful and a memorable event.
Global Village Tech Park, Bengaluru gets a Taste of Joy!
Akshaya Patra’s Taste of Joy initiative took its second step, as the Foundation’s food truck travelled to Global Village Tech Park in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru on February 23, 2017. This initiative not only gives people a taste of its nutritious mid-day meals, but also creates awareness about the cause of #FoorForEducation that helps eliminate classroom hunger. About a 1,000 people at the tech park had the Foundation’s hot, nutritious meals and the feedback received from them was overwhelmingly positive. Akshaya Patra looks forward to making its next stop as part of Taste of Joy!
Musicians Sona Mohapatra and Ram Sampath brought all their talent and energy to the fore, to set the stage on fire for an electrifying evening. Performing at Chords of Giving, a concert in aid of Akshaya Patra, at Phoenix MarketCity, Bengaluru on January 13, 2017, the duo and their band gave all the attendees an evening to remember. They were welcomed by Shri Chanchalapathi Dasa, Vice Chairman, Akshaya Patra and were also joined by the Foundation’s beneficiaries on stage. Sona, a powerhouse live performer, sang non-film as well as Bollywood songs. The icing on the cake was a tribute to the late RD Burman – one of India’s seminal music composers!

Mr Sachin Bansal, Co-founder and Chairman of e-commerce firm Flipkart, along with his team, visited the Foundation’s Vasanthapura kitchen in Bengaluru and its beneficiary school – Government Higher Primary School, Konunkunte, on December 24, 2016. They understood the workings of the Akshaya Patra, the process of mass cooking and its impact on beneficiaries. Of his experience, Mr Bansal said, “Really touched by the service you guys are doing for the country. Let’s make India healthy, happy and prosperous.”
Bengaluru sampled our tasty, wholesome food through our campaign, Taste of Joy, inaugurated by the worshipful Mayor of Bengaluru, Smt. G Padmavathi on December 14, 2016 at the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) office. The initiative invites people’s feedback on our food on social media. It will take the Akshaya Patra food truck across the city to create awareness about our cause of ‘unlimited food for education’.
Akshaya Patra and Infosys Foundation laid the foundation stone for Telangana’s first high-tech, Centralised Mega Kitchen in Khandi on December 7, 2016. Infosys Foundation has donated Rs 18.03 crores, committing to cover its entire construction cost. The kitchen will provide meals to over 1,00,000 children in Telangana from next academic year.

Akshaya Patra is reaching out to more children in India. On August 20, 2016, the Foundation’s first kitchen in Maharashtra was inaugurated by Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Honourable Chief Minister of the state. The new kitchen in Nagpur has the capacity to serve 5,000 children every day.
The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. (BTMU), Japan’s largest bank has signed an MoU with The Akshaya Patra Foundation to support Akshaya Patra’s Mid-Day Meal programme. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 11, 2016 in the presence of dignitaries from Akshaya Patra and BTMU.
As children walk on the path of education, it is important that they are fitted with good shoes to ease the journey. US-based footwear manufacturer TOMS will facilitate the journey of 1 lakh schoolchildren in Lucknow in this academic year, in partnership with Akshaya Patra, with brand new shoes! As part of this initiative, on July 30, 2016, shoes were distributed to schoolchildren of R.A. Bazar Primary School at a function in Lucknow.

On 11th March, 2016, Akshaya Patra’s V.K. Hill kitchen had visitors from SanDisk; a group of 20 enthusiastic employees who came down to volunteer at the facility as a part of CSR initiative. The group spent a few hours at the kitchen where they were guided through the operations process, and even helped Akshaya Patra’s kitchen staff in preparing for the next day.
