With the vision― ‘No child shall be deprived of education due to hunger’ and the mission to feed 5 million by 2020, The Akshaya Patra Foundation was inducted in 2000. The organisation’s headquarter is in Bangalore, Karnataka. It implements the mid-day meal programme, under the Mid-day Meal Scheme of the Government of India, to eliminate classroom hunger and work on bringing children back to schools.
Akshaya Patra is known for its governance philosophy and transparency. In 2012-13, the organisation has won the ICAI Gold Shield Award for ‘Excellence in Financial Reporting’ for the fifth consecutive time. It led to induction of the organisation to the ICAI’s Hall of Fame.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation runs the mid-day meal programme in partnership with the Government of India and the participating state Governments.
